A logic grid puzzle asks you to match things using clues. Tick what's certain, cross out the rest of that row and column, and take the last option left. UnMask turns this into murder mysteries on a floor plan.
What is a logic grid puzzle?
You get a few categories — say suspects and rooms — and a list of clues. The grid has a row for each suspect and a column for each room. Every clue lets you tick a match or cross one out, and every row and column ends up with exactly one tick.
A mini case, solved
Three suspects, three rooms, three clues: Ada was not in the Hall. Basil was in the Pantry. Cora was not in the Study.
- 1
Tick the certainty
Basil was in the Pantry: tick it, and cross out the rest of Basil's row and the Pantry column.
- 2
Use the crosses
Ada wasn't in the Hall, and the Pantry is taken. Only the Study is left for Ada.
- 3
Take the last option
That leaves the Hall for Cora — which also fits her clue.
| Suspect | Study | Pantry | Hall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ada | ✓ | ✕ | ✕ |
| Basil | ✕ | ✓ | ✕ |
| Cora | ✕ | ✕ | ✓ |
From grid to floor plan
UnMask keeps the same logic but draws the grid as a house. The rows and columns are the floor plan itself, divided into rooms, and every row and column holds exactly one person. Clues place people in rooms, on furniture or beside it — and the suspect who ends up in the victim's room is the killer.

Tips for harder puzzles
- Mark every noA cross is as useful as a tick. Most puzzles are solved by ruling things out.
- Look for the last optionWhen a row has one empty cell left, that's your answer — even if no clue says so.
- Reread the cluesA clue that seemed useless at the start often decides the end.
- Never guessA good logic puzzle always has a next step you can prove. If you're stuck, a hint should show you the reasoning.
Where to practise
