An UnMask board: a hotel floor plan with suspects placed in rooms and crossed-out cells

How it works

Sudoku rules. Murder-mystery stakes.

  1. 1

    Read the statements

Every suspect tells you where they were. Some clues pin down a room, others rule one out.

  2. 2

One per row, one per column

Just like sudoku, each row and column holds exactly one person. Place them until the floor plan fits.

  3. 3

Find who was alone with the victim

The killer is the only suspect sharing a room with the victim. No hunches — the logic proves it.

The usual suspects

Charming. Helpful. One of them did it.

Every case comes with a cast of characters — and a statement from each.

Stuck? Never for long

Hints that nudge. Never spoil.

When the trail goes cold, UnMask walks you through the next deduction — so you learn the trick instead of just getting the answer.

  • Reasoning, step by step

Each hint explains the why in plain language, one stage at a time.

  • You stay in charge

Reveal the next stage only when you want it — or place the suspect yourself.

  • Pick up where you left off

FAQ

Questions before you take the case?

Still curious? The Support page has the rest — or open the free tutorial case and see for yourself.

Is UnMask free to play?

Yes. Download UnMask for free and play 800 cold cases without paying anything. Story seasons are a one-time purchase — no subscription.

How is UnMask different from Murdle?

Murdle puzzles use a deduction grid of suspects, weapons and places. In UnMask you place the suspects on a floor plan, sudoku-style: one per row, one per column. The killer is the one who was alone with the victim.

Do I ever need to guess?

Never. Every case has exactly one solution that follows from the clues. If you get stuck, a hint explains the next deduction instead of giving the answer away.

Does UnMask work on iPad?

Yes. UnMask is made for iPhone and iPad, with roomier boards on iPad. Your progress syncs between your devices through iCloud.

Which languages does UnMask speak?

English, Dutch and German, with more languages on the way.

Can I play without an internet connection?

Yes. The cases live on your device, so you can solve them on a plane, in a tunnel or at the cottage.
